Tech innovator Nobi could prevent over 25,000 fall related hospital visits per year

The adoption of age tech by a care home in Cumbria (UK) has reduced the number of falls by 84%. If these outcomes were replicated nationwide, it could prevent 1,381 falls per day, resulting in a remarkable reduction in hospitalisations due to falls. This achievement would not only decrease the need for ambulance call-outs, alleviating pressure on staff, but also save the National Health Service (NHS) £156,585 every single day. The figures from the Nobi pilot study illuminate the substantial impact of their technology on fall prevention.

The Nobi Smart Lamp is an AI powered piece of age tech that is revolutionising fall detection and prevention in care homes in Europe, the US, New Zealand and now in the UK too.

Nobi's fall prevention leads to a potential saving of £410M per year

According to current figures 45% of reported falls in care homes result in an ambulance callout. With reported falls per year in care homes at 600,000, and the cost of an ambulance call out at £252 this means that the NHS is spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on these avoidable call outs.

The Nobi technology was used as part of a pilot funded by NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) at Hartland House in Cumbria.

The lamps had such significant impact on the lives of residents and care staff that they were rolled out across the whole home just four months into the six-month pilot programme.

Discover how Nobi's AI prevents 4 out of 5 falls

The Nobi lamp detects 100% of falls and alerts care staff immediately. This led to a huge reduction in the average response time at Hartland House, falling from 57 minutes to under 2 minutes. Nobi also prevents falls and provides care staff with data to facilitate proactive and preventive care.

In Hartland House, the lamp’s AI has proven capable of preventing 84% of falls, thanks to three concrete features.

  1. At night, Nobi’s automated night light prevents disorientation and ensures people can find their way when waking up and going to the bathroom.

  2. Additionally, when older adults get out of bed or leave their room, Nobi notifies caregivers, enabling them to offer proactive assistance and prevent falls.

  3. If a fall occurs, Nobi provides caregivers and families with privacy-protected images of a fall, allowing them to identify the cause and gather crucial information to prevent future falls.

AI for game changing ‘disruption‘

If these lamps were rolled out across the 600,000 care home beds in the UK they could prevent 1,381 falls per day, and save the NHS £156,585 every single day.

“If other care homes don’t get these lamps, I think it will be the biggest mistake they’ll ever make. They should be in every care home in the country without a doubt.”

Leanne Scrogham, Care Manager at Hartland House
